Handmade 8-Card, 2-Pocket Bifold Wallet with Cash Sleeve

This handmade bifold wallet features an outer cash sleeve, enough interior pockets for 8 credit cards, and two additional interior pockets for receipts, business cards, and other papers. The interior pockets are left open along two seams instead of just one, which allows much easier access to any papers stored within.

The wallet was knife cut from a 5-ounce Buttero leather hide. After the pieces were cut, a mahogany leather dye was applied to the outer areas to create a two-toned effect, with the center of each piece left in its undyed, natural tan color. The pieces were then waxed and polished by hand to give them a soft luster. With time and use, this wallet will pick up a beautiful patina.

After the pieces were cut and colored, they were prepared for assembly by marking stitch locations and thinning the edges with skiving knives to avoid unnecessary bulk. Edges were coated in a black protective finish, sealed with beeswax, and polished to a shine. Finally, the wallet was hand stitched using extremely durable woven polyester thread, waxed for longevity.

Hand stitched items are of far higher quality than machine stitching. The lockstich produced by a machine is prone to running if a thread should break, because the two threads enter the stitch hole, cross each others' paths, and then return the way they came in. A true saddle stitch, which can only be done by hand, involves passing each thread completely through the hole, which forms an overhand knot within each stitch. As a result, a broken thread won't run, and because both threads pass completely through each hole, the stitching remains secured by the second thread.

Waxed, braided polyester is the best thread that can be used for durable items because polyester won't rot, and the beeswax applied to it helps lock it into place and protects it from wear. Braided polyester is well known for its strength and durability, and is extremely tough.

Measures approximately 4-1/2 inches wide when closed, 3-1/2 inches tall and up to one inch deep when full of cards.
