Hand Tooled "Dragon Scale" 4-Card Folding Slim Wallet

This exterior of this handmade wallet was hand cut from a full grain leather hide from the traditional Italian tannery, Badalassi Carlo, and its interior pockets are the famous premium Buttero from another Italian tannery, Conceria Walpier. Hand tooled to resemble dragon scales and built for those who travel light, it has room enough for 4 credit cards. With time and use, this wallet will pick up a beautiful patina and begin to imitate the unique character of its owner.

The exterior was meticulously hand tooled, making each wallet truly unique and a masterpiece in its own right. Hand tooling is a process similar to embossing, but every tiny detail must be carefully placed by the artist using small tools and a mallet.

After the pieces were hand cut, they were carefully prepared for assembly by marking stitch locations, thinning the edges where appropriate, and rounding off hard corners. Edges were coated in a black protective finish, sealed with beeswax, and polished to a shine. Finally, the wallet was hand stitched using extremely durable woven polyester thread, waxed for longevity. Any edges that weren't stitched were carefully creased to add an additional layer of protection from the elements.

Hand stitched wallets are of far higher quality than machine stitched ones. The lockstich produced by a machine is prone to running if a thread should break, because the two threads enter the stitch hole, cross each others' paths, and then return the way they came in. A true saddle stitch, which can only be accomplished by hand, requires passing each thread completely through every hole, which forms an overhand knot within each stitch. As a result, a broken thread won't run, and because both threads pass completely through each hole, the stitching remains secured by the second thread.

Waxed, braided polyester is the best thread that can be used for durable items because polyester won't rot, and the beeswax applied to it helps lock it into place and protects it from wear. Braided polyester is well known for its strength and durability, and is extremely tough.

This wallet measures approximately 4-1/8 inches tall, 2-1/2 inches wide and around 1/4 to 1/2 inch deep when full of cards.
